It's funny how when you are small, time seems to take such an eternity, everything is sloooooooooooooow. But when you get older, the time just goes by faster and faster, and before you know it weeks and months have passed then years, it's quite remarkable, and sad in a way. My gorgeous six year old has only just turned six, and already can't wait to be 7, 8, 10...! I'm shouting nooo!! Stay this way for awhile, enjoy it, be free. But it's so boring she tells me! I find that as time goes on, it gets harder for me to take photos of her. She's aware of the camera now, whereas before I could just happily snap away and get that natural happy look, now she becomes shy, or forces a smile. She fusses over her hair, she has to look just so. I can't recall when this happened, seems like overnight, when did all this growing up occur? I can't believe we have bought her an Apple shuffle for her birthday, fully kitted out with Katy Perry, One Direction, and Britney. What?! Isn't that what ten-year-olds get? But then it is super cute seeing her do her little bum wiggle and singing along with her eyes closed in utter music heaven; I feel good that she is acting silly like a little kid.

We've noticed over the last few years how creative our little girl is, both on paper and also expressing herself. Her artwork has transformed over the last few months, some of the things she does makes my heart swell so much with pride it aches. I love how she uses it as her outlet, her way of retelling her day, or expressing her emotions. I do hope this is something she will continue to pursue as she gets older. If she isn't an artist when she's older then perhaps a fashion designer... The ensembles she comes up with make me raise an eyebrow and try not to giggle. Knee high socks, pulled high over some tiger-faced leggings, with a sparkly jumper tucked in, hair normally in some bizarre up-do, and she beams at me and asks, 'do I look pretty?'. How on earth do you tell that sweet little face that actually what you are wearing isn't really the done deal for going out in public. Well, I guess you don't and just let them ride it out (at least I can blame it on her age now... I'm wondering what's in store for us in ten years time!). There was a time when I would make her change and I would see her little face drop, and deep down I was asking myself, who cares anyway? So now I just go with the flow, I've realised it's so important to believe in yourself and feel good about yourself, who am I to tell a person what they can or cannot wear? (I do have to draw the line with the sock/sandal combo when it's pouring with rain outside... Let's be sensible).

Very much the girly girl, but also such a mucky tom boy! Every opportunity to go outside, rain, sun, snow, hail, mud, yep she's there (standing under the dripping drain outside to emphasise she loves the rain, probably in a summer dress too). Turning over flower pots every morning before school to search for slugs and other slimy things, and then again when we get back from school (I'm like a broken record shouting, please wash your hands after touching the bugs!!). She CONSTANTLY has her face in a tree or in the flowers. House rules: don't bring them inside! (Though on occasion a few slip through the net and I find them scurrying around the kitchen or I'll step on a slug in the lounge, ew gross).

The latest thing, though it has actually been going on for quite a few months now, is her new 'true love' (totally her words!) who is a real person, and a boy. I wasn't over the moon when I first heard of this blossoming romance as she is too little really, especially when the conversation turned to marriage and babies (not til you're 30 I cried!) . But it is so incredibly sweet, and apparently they are the 'couple' of the classroom, with her friends whispering in her ear his whereabouts so she can meet him later at the park, and little dance skits they do together. It is lovely to see her care about someone so much, and watch her go all red and shy when we ask questions about him. Though she is such a sensitive soul, I do worry when she is older about her heart being broken. But I suppose you can't protect them from everything.

So the big six. And soon it will be 7, 8, 10.... I am just trying so hard to enjoy every minute I possibly can, as i just can't keep up at the moment. Slow down my little whirlwind, enjoy every single day being so young and free, the years will go by before you know it. Xxx
