This Boy Rocks

My little three year old does rock! He has had a tough year but is coming out on top, and I'm a super proud mummy. Last February there were concerns over his lack of communication and eye contact, his tendencies to ignore the world around him. But as he approaches three, he is finally saying 'mummy', such a simple word that we expect to be among one of their first words.  It is so easy to take for granted all those 'milestones' that your child reaches. I remember with my first it was almost an obsession. Has she started crawling yet? Yep tick. Has she said her first word within the correct guidelines. Yep tick that one too. The more children I have had, the more I have thrown these guidelines out the window. When Sonny wasn't reaching his milestones, I have to say I wasn't overly concerned- he's a boy. He's lazy. He takes after his daddy 😀. But as more time went on we thought maybe we should see if this was something to worry about... And after seeing numerous specialists and therapists, we have learned how gorgeous and smart our little boy is. Maybe he can't string a sentence together just yet, but hand on my heart I know he will be just fine in this big old world of ours. He knows how to tell me he would rather eat a huge plate of chocolate cake over dinner (well who wouldn't?). He has started to ask me for cuddles. And the other day, I looked into his eyes and said 'I love you', and he looked back at me and for the first time ever gave me a kiss on the lips; and in that moment my heart totally melted and I nearly cried. I can't explain what it feels like to have moments of complete connection with him, it's immeasurable. I love this little boy and the different challenges he brings me every day, and I thank him for teaching me to see the world a little differently. xx
